What I Read On Vacation
July 4, 2010
I still have a few hours left of vacation, which I am holding onto very tightly, but here’s what I read on my vacation. I may write more about some of these books, I may not. I’m going to have a busy, busy month. We close on the house in ten days – TEN DAYS. We move in 19 days. Anyone want to send some magical packing elves my way? And possibly a money tree?
- The Lost Girls: Three Friends, Four Continents, One Unconventional Detour around the World by Jennifer Baggett, Holly Corbett, and Amanda Pressner
- Rowboat in a Hurricane by Julie Angus
- The Girl with the Glass Feet by Ali Shaw
- The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz
- The First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival by Ken Wheaton
- Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter
- Confessions of a Prairie Bitch by Alison Arngrim
The only one I didn’t really like was The Girl With the Glass Feet. I had a really hard time getting into it and just, meh. I seem to be a bit off fantasy right now though so that may be playing a part in it. I really, really liked The Lost Girls and think that a lot of twenty-somethings would enjoy it. And Only the Good Spy Young? I want another Gallagher Girls book, pronto.

I’m glad you liked First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival. I liked it a lot.
TW started Girl with the Glass Feet but doesn’t seem to have gotten more than 10 pages into it. Not sure if that’s because she didn’t like it or because she put it down and forgot she was reading it.

I did like First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival. Possibly not as much as you and TW but I liked it.
Girl with the Glass Feet…I felt meh about it. I’m just not sure if the book really was meh or if I am just not in the right reading mood for that kind of book.

Ooh, I’ve been wanting to read Confessions of a Prairie Bitch. Is it worth picking up? Little House on the Prairie was my favorite show growing up.

This is where I must confess that I did not grow up watching Little House. I do think that it is probably a must-read for fans, especially if you loved to hate Nellie.
That said, it does contain sections that talk about sexual abuse and incest which some readers may find disturbing or triggering.

Thanks so much for reading The Lost Girls! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the story and would agree: It’s a theme that many 20-something (and even 30 something readers) seem to relate to.
Happy Travels!

Thanks for reading First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival … even if it wasn’t your favorite. I’ll do better on the next one!

Oooh, am VERY MUCH looking forward to Only The Good Spy Young – will be something I pick off the TBR pile VERY soon. Would love to read a post on it, if you have time. (Too bad you weren’t in Toronto last week on your vacation – Ally Carter was there talking about the GG books.)
Good luck with the moving and packing!!

Oh wow – good for you! I was away for almost 2 weeks and only got through half of Meg Cabot’s Insatiable. That’s life with a 2 year old for ya.

I was disappointed by GLASS FEET too. I don’t know, I just thought it was dull and not as magical as I expected. i was expecting AS Byatt and got… dull. Oh well. Sounds like otherwise you had a great reading vacation!
