Itch
January 4, 2010
I have the itch to go through my bookshelves and pull out books that I think I’m not going to read. I feel the need to organize and purge.
I blaming this on the fact that people are all resolutiony right now and talking about decluttering and getting organized. Plus I’ve been sick and house-bound since Thursday. (And still am, taking a sick day today because I’m still too gross to be around people.)

I’ve had that itch too … I started with DVDs the other day (pulled out 13 that I hadn’t watched in years and didn’t plan on watching anytime soon) and then started in on cookbooks yesterday (mostly ones that I got as gifts or bought on a whim without really looking inside). The sad thing is that I’m excited to take all of these to Half Price Books just so that I can buy more books! I seem to only be half-way there on the concept of reducing clutter.

Oh yes, I feel the same way about my DVDs. However they are hidden away so they only bug me if I think about them.
I know that I’ll always buy more books sooner or later (though I have slowed down a LOT in the last couple of years). I think right now it’s partly that we’re talking about buying a house and the thought of having to pack all these books is giving me hives.

I love purging books – or anything, really. There are hoarders in my family, so every time I bring myself to organize and chuck things out, I feel I’ve struck a blow for family sanity!

I think at a certain point I just find all the books overwhelming. And then I rather ruthlessly purge the shelves. And yes, I know exactly what you mean about sanity! Now if only I could Lee to purge his CDs…

I just went through all of my books and it was well worth it! I realized that I was holding onto a lot of books that I didn’t LOVE…so they went and I feel tons of lighter…well, my house does anyway.

Yes! I have a lot of books I didn’t love and I think it’s time for them to go bye-bye.

Have fun if you get going on it. Decluttering is never one of my resolutions – I know I’d never succeed with that one. I don’t have a Zen decorating style

I haven’t done anything but look miserably at the bookshelves. I’ve been sick for a week. lol
And trust me, I’m so not Zen. But at some point clutter starts to feel like baggage and that’s when I start to feel…crowded.
