It’s gift guide time

November 23, 2009

It’s that time of year where I start working on book gift guides for BlogHer. The teen/YA one will be posted in about two weeks, the adult one the week after that.

So I want to know, what books and bookish items are you gifting this year? What have you gotten in the past that you loved?

I found these book covers on a list of bookish gifts..I can’t remember who posted them..perhaps it was you! They’re really nice for protecting books and they have the built in bookmark. It’s also very nice for when you’re reading a book with a very unfortunate looking cover… :)

Last year, I gave each of my daughter’s daycare teacher a bookmark. I figured since they were so into books at school, they must read on their own time as well :)

I’ve also given my stepdad photography books since he is into photography.

I always, always, always need bookmarks.

I used to give books to absolutely everyone, but always something that they’d be interested in (or that I was pretty sure they were interested in, I think I got it wrong a couple of times).

That’s exciting! I got a Sony Reader for my birthday this year, and I also read e-books on my iPhone. So handy.

The books I know I’m gifting so far are Matchless by Gregory Maguire for my mom (and another copy to me, from me). My sister is going to get The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks and the new Wicked the Musical Pop-Up Book from DK. My brother is going to get either L.A. Bizarro (“The All-New Insider’s Guide to the Obscure, the Absurd, and the Perverse in Los Angeles”) or maybe How to Be Inappropriate by Daniel Nester.

I haven’t come up with any good book-related gifts this year yet …

High on my wishlist are gorgeous editions of 8 Modern Virago classics, which are hardback with a cover designed by people like Orla Kiely & Cath Kidston. http://www.littlebrown.co.uk/NewsEvents/News-Archive/Virago-Modern-Classics

Sadly, think they’re only available in Britain!

Whether any of my family actually use my wishlist is quite another matter…
