The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks
February 23, 2009
Ah, E Lockhart’s The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks. What can I say? It’s excellent. Truly wonderful. It was Prinz honoured and won a Cybils.
I’m one of the last to read it so what do I have left to say? Not a lot. This is the kind of book had I read it as a teen would have made me long to go to boarding school. When I was a kid I thought boarding school was the coolest thing ever. (Ha! Dorm life cured me of that fast.) I loved Frankie. I don’t think I could have ever been the same criminal mastermind she was but I loved her and totally would have wanted to be her friend.
So rather than add anything that hasn’t been said already I just say awesome, awesome, awesome. Feminist. Wonderful. Patriarchy! Ha!

Didn’t you write about this already? Or did you just mention that you had bought it? I swear I remember you talking about this book before. And, hmm, now I have to look into it a little more because I thought it was about a boy and not dorm life and you know, boring stuff. ha!

Apparently I’m like the only person who didn’t LOVE this book. For me it was just…”meh”. It really didn’t stand out to me.

I put this on my library list when I was halfway through reading your review. Looks like it’s going to be another “My Most Excellent Year,” where I read about it on your blog, order it from the library, and love it! Can’t wait!

Kit-Cat – I’m not sure it’s a you book. Maybe…
Mollie – lol. I often don’t love books that it feels everyone else does.
Elizabeth – it’s a different kind of love from My Most Excellent Year but equally good.

I am one of the last to read it, too… I am waiting for it to come in for me at the library!

I didn’t love this one. I posted about it too (though my book blog had a long dry spell of no posts). I appreciated the themes and I wanted to love it but I ended up just liking it.

Kailana – Don’t you hate it when you feel you are the last to read something? Of course every time I mention that someone always pops up to say that they haven’t read it yet.
Kat – I can see that. I think I just really liked Frankie. She amused me.

Just finished reading this… and it honestly didn’t grab me. I’m trying to think of other boarding school books, new and old-favorites, to browse, to see if I’m just not feeling the genre at the moment. Maybe it’s an autumnal, back-to-school mindset.
