My Most Excellent Year
September 26, 2008
Steve Kluger’s My Most Excellent Year: a novel of love Mary Poppins & Fenway Park is better than excellent. It’s fabulous.
T.C Keller (aka Tony C, Anthony and Tick) spends ninth grade trying to get Alejandra to fall in love with him. His brother Augie spends ninth grade figuring out that he’s gay and falling in love with Andy. Alejandra (Ale or Allie) spends ninth grade trying not to fall in love with T.C. and figuring out that unlike the rest of her family she does not want to be a diplomat. Together they fill you in on their most excellent year.
T.C. and Augie aren’t brothers in the traditional sense. They choose it when they became friends after T.C.’s mother died. And then they made their parents accept it and they became one big family. In ninth grade they continue to add to their family with Alé, Andy, Lori and Bucky.
It’s magical and wonderful and if you haven’t read it yet what the heck are you waiting for? Go read it. Now.
