No updates…

October 31, 2005 sometimes I ramble

I know, I suck. No updates. I really haven’t been reading very much. I’ve been very distracted by tv. Too much good tv on this season. I’m getting better. I should have some stuff to report after this weekend since I’ll be spending 10 hours on a bus (5 hours each way, meh).

Handmaid’s Tale

October 10, 2005 Banned Books,Canadian,Fiction

I finally finished Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Not that it took a long time to read really, I just haven’t been putting aside much time for reading lately. I was familiar with the story because the movie was on TV once when I was younger. I may be wrong but doesn’t the movie focus a bit more on the relationship between the Handmaid and Nick? Or are those just the scenes I remember most?

I just don’t feel like I have much to say about it. It’s a good book and everyone knows that it’s a good book. Really what can be said about it that hasn’t been said elsewhere?

I think that the bigger question is do I go see Margaret Atwood next month when she’s in town? I can’t decide. Mainly because I’m pretty sure that it is when the redheads are in town and that may be the same day as Dav’s birthday party. The little princess takes precedence over the great literary woman. Cause Dav only turns 2 once. I will likely have other opportunities to see Atwood again.

And I just want to say, it’s really damn hard for me to spell Atwood’s last name properly because my grandfather’s name was “Attwood”.

This looks really interesting

October 1, 2005 Biography/Memoir,Bookstores,Women

I just added Chin Up Girls: A Book of Women’s Obituaries to my amazon.ca wishlist. It’s a collection of women’s obituaries from Britain’s Daily Telegraph. Supposedly most of the obituaries are not of “celebrities” although there are a couple. I think it looks really interesting. I found it on the Nicholas Hoare website. I really must make a trip there in the near future. I haven’t been there in a long time. It’s a neat little independent bookstore and I should make an effort to support it.
